A Day at Yeo Valley Farm

Sep 18, 2014 | Nutrition | 1 comment

I thought I’d share some photos from my day at Yeo Valley dairy farm in Somerset yesterday. I had a wonderful day in the gorgeous countryside, and really enjoyed learning more about the company and its ethos. I also discovered their amazing headquarters- it looks like an incredible place to work. For those that don’t know, Yeo Valley are an organic dairy company that produce a range of yogurts, milk, cream, butter, and ice-creams.

After an incredible lunch at the staff canteen, where everything is organic and locally sourced, we were taken around by the head farmer, who took us around Holt Farm. We were taken through the reason and process behind the organic side of farming, from what they use in the fields to ensure the soil keeps in top condition, to limiting the use of antibiotics (and making sure it doesn’t get into the milk). It was all very eye opening, and made me think twice about buying non-organic dairy products in the future.

A highlight was meeting the Yeo Valley cows…

I left laden down with yogurt, and in particular can’t wait to try some of their 0% fat Greek yogurt range, which unlike many other low fat yogurts, actually has a lower sugar and higher protein content than the full fat version! I’ll let you know what I think, but look out for it next time you’re at the supermarket.

That Greek yogurt sounds amazing. I’m assuming it isn’t in the States? 🙁
