Serial Podcast

serial podcast

After getting so many questions about an instagram picture I posted the other day talking about Serial, I thought I’d write a post about the podcasts that I’m currently listening to. (I actually wrote this post out once, and lost it, always a brilliant start to the day!).

Serial

I’ve never heard about a more talked about podcast, I overhear it being discussed in the office, on the tube and in coffee shops. If you haven’t heard about it, clear your weekend, download the last 9 episodes and start listening. The series tells the true life story of a murder case of Hae Min Lee who was strangled in 1999. Her ex boyfriend Adnan is currently serving a life sentence for murdering her, however he has always maintained he is innocent. The podcasts are told by Sarah and her team, and investigative journalist as they trawl through the documents, speak to Adnan and other witnesses to try to get to the bottom of what really happened. It’s gripping stuff, and I promise you won’t be able to help coming up with your own theories.

Slate Serial Spoiler Specials

If you become as involved as I have in Serial then you’ll start searching out related articles, blogs, and you guessed it, podcasts. This weekly chat explores what went on in each episode of Serial as well as talking to special guests and discussing surrounding topics.

Ted Talks

These 8-20 min talks will infinitely improve your dinner party chat. With topics ranging from what life is like as an 89 year old, to the newest satellites, these funny, informative talks are the perfect commuter listening given that they’re just the right length without causing you to ride the tube a few more stops to enable you to hear the end. They are recorded at Ted Talk conferences around the world, and so often have slideshows accompanying the talks that you can download on youtube. Choose from Ted Talks Business, Art, Design, Science and Medicine, Health, News and Politics, Education, Technology, Society and Culture, and Music or a mixture of them all.

Jillian Michaels

You know I love Jillian Michaels- hers was the first podcast I discovered and I’ve been a loyal listener since. She talks about a mixture of health and fitness, society, love, and life. She’s funny, honest and great long run listening. I’m so excited to go and see her live in January on her tour!

Marathon Talk

The only British podcast I listen to, and the only one about running! This funny, tongue in cheek, informative (yet cheeky) podcast is another great long run listen that will have you laughing out loud at times, as well as adding races to your must do list!

I also listen to MarathonTalk, i always find the training tips they give invaluable when it comes to training for an event. i recently discovered ‘The Infinite Monkey Cage’ with Prof. Brian Cox and some comedian bloke. A mixture of comedy & science that regularly goes over the top of my head, i often find myself laughing & learning something scientifically nerdy when out for my run!

Great post! I’ve downloaded Serial (after reading all the twitter conversations about it) and came across the TED talks before just didn’t know there were so many! I’m glad I will have something productive to do now when I am forced to use public transport!

I love Jillian Michaels podcast too. Janice is my favourite! If you like the TED talks, I suggest the Ted Radio Hour, which you can get as a podcast. Each podcast has a theme, and they take snippets from related talks, and interview the speakers and get more in depth. Always fascinating.

+1 for marathontalk and I’d also add the Desert Island Discs archive, it’s utterly ridiculously addictive once you start going through all the feeds to listen to amazing stories from people you thought you knew. Try Dawn French, Lilly Allen, Robert de Niro … etc. etc. etc.
