I finished the Chicago Marathon

Oct 11, 2015 | Marathon Majors | 12 comments

Thank you for all your lovely messages, tweets, instagram comments and emails. I so appreciate every single one. Just stopping by quickly to give you the good, the bad and the ugly about today’s race:

Chicago Marathon Finish line 2015

The Good – I finished and saw my Mum and Tom multiple times around the course.

The Bad– it hurt like hell for most of the race, and I walked a substantial amount of it.

The Ugly – having to do a ‘wild wee’ as the queue for the loos at the start were ridiculous, and I threw up at the side of the course twice, and once after finishing. As Tom put it, I had a pretty gross morning.

Will try to post a full race recap in the next few days, thank you again for all your support! xx

A blog dedicated entirely to running? What?! A dream come true haha! As a marathoner myself, I can definitely appreciate the hard work and training that goes into completing a marathon. I’ve never run Chicago, but I run Rhode Island every year. Keep up the amazing work! <3

Sounds like your race didn’t go as planned. So sorry! After 19 weeks of near stellar training, my marathon turned out to be a failure by all worldly standards. I surpassed my time goal by almost two hours and only finished because the grace of other runners who practically carried me to the finish. I have a broken tibia, says my doctor. The marathon is a beast and so unforgiving but that’s what makes it so addicting and wonderful.

Well done, Charlie! You’re such an inspiration and your incredible spirit shines through when, I think, most of us would’ve given up. Bravo for finishing the race and, more so, for your tireless dedication to your training over these past few months. I hope you’re recovering well today!

Well done Charlie! Sounds like you put in an incredible effort with being in a lot of pain and sick too. Whopper achievement to finish with all of those extra battles standing in your way. You can be very proud. Look forward to reading all about it 🙂
