New York Marathon Training Week 2

Jul 12, 2016 | Running | 2 comments

Since I still don’t have a formal, written plan for New York Marathon training, I’ve been taking it as it comes. I ran three times this week; 2 X 5K run clubs and the 10K British London Run, plus 3 strength workouts. Next week I’m in Majorca so it might well be just as haphazard, however my goal is to spend the time setting out a proper training plan for the next 17 weeks!

Monday – Beach Bootcamp in Portugal. Our last week and it was a tough one, we loved the guys that we worked out with while out there.

Tuesday – Travelling home from Portugal – rest day.

Wednesday – PT session with Brad from BW Commando Fitness – I’m working with him to help build core strength, leg power and muscle. I love learning about different techniques to build running strength, including working on specific drills for run training. I found it interesting that the weighted squats I was doing were only halfway to build power in the part of the sequence that will translate directly to running movements.

Led the 5K Sports Edit run – I lead this group run once a month from their Fulham Road store, covering the distance around Battersea Park, the Thames Path and the bridges in the area. Come and join us one Wednesday! It’s free for anyone, just come along for the 6.30pm start.

Thursday – Rest Day.

Friday – My BIRTHDAY! And who doesn’t like getting worked so hard in a class that you have to physically lie down during rounds 4 & 5, and after the workout. I tried the Skinny Rebel Workout (it’s on Classpass, this link will get both of us £30 if you join) – you may have seen the Bane masks that accompany this HIIT class. You can complete the rounds with or without the altitude mask – I tried for about 30 seconds with the make but found it really claustrophobic.

This week I’ve been wearing some Pink Soda Gym Kit from JD Sports – although it’s not kit that I would run in, it works well for strength training.

I loved the snakeskin leggings, seriously comfortable and not see through (one of the most important things to consider when you’re going to be doing weighted squats & bear crawls!) They looked really fashionable whilst still being fully functionable workout gear. I am obsessed with these grey Nike Thea Air Max – I’ve been wearing them with gym kit, jeans, dresses etc and receiving so many compliments! They’re on sale at the moment for £75 down from £92!

Saturday – Char’s Wedding!

Sunday – A rather hectic day including the British 10K London Run (full recap here) followed by talking at the Dreams into Plans Fitfluence event, then leading the run club for Planet Manna’s fitness festival. I arrived just in time to take Cat’s yoga class before taking some runners out for a 5K along the Thames path from Hammersmith to Putney.

So jealous of your life right now! Training in Portugal and then jetting off to Majorca and all your training sounds so interesting and varied. Good luck with creating your training plan, looking forward to reading about it!
